Worst RPG Game of All Time

Postby The Mad Blogger » November 1st, 2011, 11:37 am

Hello all! The Mad Blogger here!

Because of the number of responses to his Greatest RPG game of All Time post, The Mad Blogger offers this post.

What is the worst RPG game of all time?

For the record, The Mad Blogger votes for Obitus for the SNES. This game is abysmal. It is difficult to control and rather pointless.

What's your pick for the worst RPG of all time?

The Mad Blogger has spoken.

P.S. The Mad Blogger's NEW catch phrase is coming on Monday, November 07.

Final Fantasy XII. That game needs to die.

Perhaps not the worst, but I was really disapointed with:

Beyond the Beyond (PS1)

1st PS1 RPG I got & I expected much more.

Beyond the Beyond wasn't that bad! Old school RPG action a la Dragon Quest,
Climax visuals and interface (the awesome studio behind the Shining games...).
Not a bad game at all, in my opinion.

I have honestly never played a worse RPG than Final Fantasy 13. I disliked 2, hated 8 but absolutely despise this game so much than I got rid of it completely. While I've played many RPG's that I gave up after an hour, this one really hurts because I dropped $80 on opening day for it. It might look nice but I must ask:

Did the developers ever play an RPG before?

This would have been much better off being a movie. Sure it would have bombed  but my wallet wouldn't have felt the sting. I've probably played 50+ RPG titles and this is by far the worst.

Dishonorable mention to Cladun (PSP). Just because you offer an 8 bit music option and NES style graphics doesn't make a great RPG by itself: you have to do more than pull on my retro heartstrings before I consider it a good old school RPG.

There's are terrible games in every genre; the RPG that disappointed me the most was Knights of the Old Republic II. Play through it to the end and you'll see it was a rush job - character stories are left unresolved, and all the endings are truncated. The first KOTOR was at least was properly finished.

Azure Dreams(ps1) and Time Stalkers(dreamcast) were huge disappontments. I hate these style of rpgs with a passion. Randomly generated levels of the SAME dungeon is just pure developer laziness. Starting at Lv.1 everytime you enter is just uncalled for. Any sense of progression is lost.
