Before you write off the entire "Sims" franchise, PLEASE play the game on a real computer with a mouse and keyboard.
I've played sims for gamecube and ps2, and the experience was insanely subpar.
On a computer you can easily design a house from scratch. The fun IS the design of the house. I found it fun to work on various skills like 'logic' or 'fitness', which later would aid you in upgrading your jobs.
You'd have to try to juggle training various skills, and inviting friends over (to increase your friend count), all the while trying to time manage it all-it really is a challenge.
Or you could always 'work at home' making those cute gnome things-and once your crafting skill got high enough you could make a living with just that.
I found that The Sims and all the expansions was where simplicity met graphics.
The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 got overcomplicated. Sims 3 suffered greatly since so much started to happen in the simulation-it would grind your processor to a halt.
It really is an acquired taste, but I DO NOT think that the Sims (for pc) deserves an "F".
Maybe the version for ps2 and gamecube deserve the F for horribly implemented 'controls'. I really couldn't even function in those versions. The pc is where the gameplay really shines! Please give the game a chance on a REAL computer! I implore you!

Well VGC has stated time and time again that he doesn't play PC games because that would stretch his already large load even further. Besides if the Sims for the PS2 sucks then he should rate it that way. The game isn't under a PC review catalog so I don't really see what the problem is.
I really like the Sims on the pS2 but then again I don't think sim games are his cup of tea. He rated Animal Crossing (NGC) like a D or an F.

Eh, Sims on any platform is boring to begin with. I mean it's far more entertaining to kill Sims rather than actually build houses around them. I can appreciate a good simulation but The Sims never did it for me.

On that topic, I liked building very large 'hedge mazes'...so that when people would visit my property they would literally spend all day just trying to get to my house. They would sometimes be tired after being in my house-and then have to try to walk the hedge maze after leaving, and would pass out several times. And of course their bladder meter would also cause a funny situation.

I enjoyed the Sims & thought it was a terrifically awesome game. The hedge maze is hilarious. I liked removing pool ladders and removing doors. I had my own gnome sweat shop too.

In fairness, it sounds like the more you put into this game, the more you get out of it.

Fo sho. Building & decorating is fun, but the most fun I had was when I tortured the Sims and they made their funny noises in protest. I have never laughed so much playing a game as I did when I played the Sims.
