Sony systems take a year

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » December 19th, 2006, 10:22 am

Is it just me or does it seem like every sony videogame system takes at the very least 1-2 years to really hit its stride.  I mean this sort of goes for every system, but Sony takes it to another level.  They almost never launch with a killer app...people complain the hardware is difficult to program for and the systems themselves are usually pricey.

With that said, once a Sony hits it stride there is usually no turning back.  The Nintendo DS has been THE portable gaming device for quite a while, but right now the PSP is finally started to get its act together.  Its focusing more on the games and the overall quality of the games has improved greatly.  I have owned a DS for two years and never once thought about buying a PSP...it cost too much and no titles interested me.  Well, Metal Gear just came out and Rachet and Clank is soon to follow...By first quarter 07 I will probably buy a PSP.  Plus I can get titles that I missed out on like Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins,Infected and Exit.

Does anyone agree that Sony takes their sweet time getting thier act together or is it just me?  Do you guys feel it will take the PS3 1-2 years to finally live up to expectations?

I think by the end of it all, we will be all shelling out 600 bones for the dam thing. I'm sure some 3D fondling immersive sci-fi something game with make us all feel like we are 12 again and we will rush out, buy it and annoy our wives. So eventually, what you said will be true.

Then the PS3 will break, and we'll buy two more and eventually someone will crown Sony the sales king.

FUNK

I would agree with  you a 100% but like you said, every system goes through this. Look at the 360, with games like Gears, Midway, Mass Effect, Lost Planet it is truly hitting its stride. Also, the XBLA is finally putting out some cool titles (Assault Heroes). Sony has finally got behind the PSP and some great games are finally out for it. Now, it will never reach the popularity of the DS (although I think it will be kind of close in the US) but still is a fun system in its own right. By the way, the new Metal Gear is a blast! I really think by next year at this time we'll have a good idea where the 360, Wii and the PS3 are truly shaking out as far as sales go.

Sony systems take a year

Honestly I couldn't remember what the PS1 launch was like.  I remember my friend getting one around launch and the two games he had were wipeout and tekken.  I loved Tekken and playing that game alone convinced me to get a PS1.  I was never a big fan of Wipeout though.

I'm not sure about this statement.  I remember the PS1 launch pretty well, and Sony wowed everybody with titles like Ridge Racer (still one of my favorites), Toshinden, Tekken, ESPN Extreme Games, and Wipeout (ok, some of these were released shortly after launch).

The PS2 took a little slower to come up to speed, but they had the market in their back pocket from day one.

If you're referring to the quality of games, I think it gradually increases over the life of a console, until the next generation is announced.

As for the PSP, well, we're still waiting on that one.  My friends who own PSPs are pretty down on it nowadays.

I can't figure out people who say this about the psp? What are you waiting for? I just don't get it. There are plenty of great games out there.

Killzone

Hot Shots: Open Tee

Locoroco

Syphon Filter

MLB 2006

NHL 07

Valkaryi Profile: Lenneth

Grand Theft Auto

UG&G

Infected

Pursuit Force

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Gradius Collection

Field Commander

Genesis Collection

etc, etc, etc.....

If you don't like the system, that is fine. I just honestly don't know people are waiting for. I really just get sick of hearing it when there are terrific games out there for the system.

Because while there are several excellent games in your list, several have significant issues. And most are average like Infected and Pursuit Force. And several are just console ports.

I want one, just waiting for price drops, then I'm going to buy these games for it.

Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
Activision Hits Remixed
Brothers in Arms D-Day
EA Replay

Gradius Collection
Namco Museum Battle Collection
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
Sega Genesis Collection

Maybe sometime Vice City Stories if I ever stop being sick of them, and only after Liberty City Stories on the PS2 that I've yet to buy since the series is getting boring.

I don't think any of the games I mentioned are average. Have you played them?

Yes I have, except for the sports games, Valkaryi Profile, and Field Commander. Only ones on there I want to own are Gradius Collection, and Sega Genesis Collection for the 5 arcade bonuses on it that are different than the PS2 bonuses.

I'm just saying that they aren't all A+ titles in most people's opinions. There are several great titles in your list though for most gamers.
