Sony systems take a year

Only a idiot would think that though, considering Sony's previous two consoles and the fact that the system will see games made by the same developers making Wii and Xbox 360 games for the most part.

It might be idiotic to think that there is no way that the PS3 will succeed, but there's nothing wrong with saying there's a chance it will fail.  I think it's idiotic to say there's no way the system won't be a success.  It is NOT off to a good start.  Both its competitors have significant head starts, it is expensive, it does NOT offer a to-die-for format like the PS2 did with the inclusion of DVD compatibility, and if you ask me, the hype over it has already faded substantially, which I think has to do with the fact that it is not any better, graphically, than the 360, and now that it's out and everybody has had a chance to see that, they've lost the excitement.  If there were more units available at launch to be bought before everybody saw that it was not light years ahead of its competition like it professed to be, things would be different.  I think there is definitely a chance it could fail, whether it fails to sell at all, or if Sony cuts the price to boost sales and loses even more money and it fails to make a profit, even with substantial sales.

The point I was making is that I think the games I listed are great. Heck, I think Syphon Filter is the greatest handheld game ever. If you talk about Pursuit Force most reviews put it in the B+/A range and they are correct. Whether a game is "great" or not is very subjective. That being said I personally think every game I listed is great with a very high fun factor. Heck, Valkaryie Profile is one the greatest RPG's of all time. To each his/her own I guess.

Paul....Nintendo does not have a significant head start. If anything they have years of catching up to do. Keep in mind the PS2 is the best selling system for 2006. The PS3 is off to just as a good start as the 360 (remember all of Microsoft's problems last year?). The PS3 is going to be fine and besides, it is too early to tell one way or the other.

The more I argue about this stuff, the more certain I am that this is the only right answer until the end of next Christmas.

It isn't wrong to think that the PS3 will fail, but the odds of it happening are pretty slim.

Here is why the PS3 will rebound in 07

Devil May Cry 4

Metal Gear Solid 4

Lair

Final Fantasy XIII

Mercenaries 2

Virtua Fighter 5

Tekken 6

Ratchet and Clank

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier

Sony has a bunch great software right here...and these mostly sequels.  People who enjoyed the previous edidtions will start picking up the sytem just to enjoy the next installment...I know I will be.  Plus there is bound to be a few orginal IPs that come out of nowhere.  Sony will be fine.

Metal Gear, Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy alone are enough to make it a good 1st year of quality software.  Plus 90% of 360 games will also be available on the PS3.  The 360 didn't exactly set the world on fire with its software until the second half of this year.  Lets be reasonable and give the PS3 some time to go through its mandatory growing pains.

Mercenaries 2 alone warrants a purchase for me! Lair looks good as well.

There is no way that mercs 2 isn't coming to the 360 as well.

You are probably right about Mercenaries, but as of right now its only a rumor that it will be coming to the 360.  Maybe the game launch on the PS3 and hit the 360 a few months later.  I'm really not sure.

In a similar bit of news, Konami is supposedly putting pressure on Hideo Kojima to bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to the 360.  Rumors have run rampant over the past few days, but no offical announcements have been made.  The most popular theory is that the PS3 will have a 3-6 month exclusive with the title before Konami brings it to the 360.  If it does come to the 360 it better sell well this time...MGS 2 Subsistance for the orginal xbox was a complete financial failure (hence no MGS 3 for Xbox).

The PS3 won't be considered a "success" unless it dominates like the PS2 has over the past few years.  The bar has been set very high for Sony.  If it merely matches the sales of the Xbox 360 or Wii, it will be considered a failure.  The thing is - Sony has put a major crimp in their manufacturing process by saddling the system with the Blu Ray player.  Even if even system produced sells, it probably won't be until the Spring until Sony can satisfy demand.  And by that time, most of the "hardcore" customers willing to shell out $600 will probably already have their systems.  Sony will likely be forced to slash prices by the end of next year.  Keep in mind that the high price point has also hurt sales of the PSP.
