Wii channels: news and internet

Did I miss something, how are people typing from their Wii? Is there  a touch pad that you use on screen? I wouldn't count on Nintendo doing all that much as far as upgrades go. They shipped the thing w/o a real hard drive (to save money I guess) and I believe that is how they intend to support the Wii.

Think of how you have to do it on the PSP, but then add the ability to point at the character you want to type instead of having to tediously scroll over each letter in the keyboard.  That's how it's done.

Charging money for a second rate internet browser?   That should be free, no excuse, who wants to pay money for an internet browser, especially one that will be in low res 480p like the Wii?   Someone better call the Fonz, Nintendo has jumped the shark.

It's free until June, 2007.  And after that, well those who don't want it don't have to buy it.  Since you asked "Who wants to" do it though, I guess we'll find out then.

[QUOTE=a] Military Madness (the start of Advance Wars).

Psst, you know Advance Wars is like the seventh game in a series that started with Famicom Wars long before the release of the TG-16, right?

“Hello from my Wii as well! Actually, it's the Forecast Channel you are describing here, not the News Channel, which doesn't go live until Janurary 07.”
Thanks, I realized my error with the channel mixup, but I was having trouble posting another message to fix it.

Actually, I did knew about Famicom Wars. I don't know what I was thinking there. It's earlier Advance Wars anyway, and I want it.

Anyway, Shawn, I think there is a good chance Nintendo could update the Wii to make the USB port more useful. Given that they have already started Weather Channel and internet browser, they send out 3-5 Virtual Console games every Monday, and News Channel is due in January. Plus, they have said they plan on creating more channels as time goes on. It seems to me as though Nintendo has already shown they are willing to send updates.

In addition to that, the Wii has internal memory, but you can add memory with SD cards, not just Nintendo SD cards, but any. It seems as though Nintendo is also willing to give people options to use memory that is not Nintendo brand, therefore I see no reason why the use of an external hardrive on the Wii is not a possiblity.

Yep, I got a 2 GB SD card installed.  It works well.

Why the hell would anybody use the Wii to surf the net? That's crazy. KEYBOARDS are your friend! I can't believe they are going to charge for this lame ass service.

Why does this bother you so much?  If it's not worth it, people won't buy it.  If it is, they will.  It's not that big a deal.
