The PSP is good now.

It took awhile, but it is finally becoming great.  That seems to be how Sony systems are.  I'm sure within 2 years, everyone will forget about how much the PS3 was bashed this year, just like its so forgotten that the PS2 got slammed by the dreamcast in 2000.

How good is your memory?  The PS2 never got slamed by the Dreamcast.  The PS2 wasn't released until late Oct in 2000, and much like the PS3, people were fighting over them.  Even with a year head start, the Dreamcast was never a match.  Also, the PS2 was never bashed when it launched - it received nothing but praise.  This PS3 situation is completely different.

Yep.  The release of the PS2 was one of the death knells of the Dreamcast.

The PS2 had shortages, though not as severe as this one, if I remember correctly.  Additionally, the PS2 didn't receive much negative press at all.  The price tag wasn't nearly so high either.

I'm just talking in terms of game quality.  Sales wise, the PS2 absolutely slaughtered the Dreamcast, and everyone knew the Dreamcast was doomed to failure as soon as the PS2 launched.   But overall, the Dreamcast had far more quality games in the Christmas of 2000 than the PS2.   A lot of people criticised the launch games for the PS2, simular to how they are criticising the launch games for the PS3.  Both the PS2 and PS3 are quality hardware, but it appears they both are getting off to slow starts.

From what I've read from you, you seem to like 3D shooters, so here you go:

Take heed that the Metal Gear is more slow-paced than its console counterparts (do to the "strategy" parts) and has a new control scheme that takes some time to get used to;  if you're a Metal Gear fan, though, you should get it.

SOCOM's graphics are a bit bland (it was released shortlty after launch, so go figure) but is still a lot of fun, and only $20.  The AI seems a bit kooky at times, too.

I've heard that Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is the best instant-gratification pure FPS-type game on the system, which apparantly uses a Goldeneye/Perfect Dark type control scheme.  Haven't played it though.

Good things have been said about Killzone, which looks like a more strategic Neo-Contra.  Haven't played this either.

Umm, I downloaded the demo for LocoRoco, which seems pretty entertaining.

I syphon filter 20$ as well?  Never was much into socom.  Do you know in what way is the new metal gear slower than the console ones?  Killzone looked really good as did locoroco.  Does anyone know how field commander is?

The Metal Gear is mainly slower due to the strategy segments and recruiting new members of Foxhound.  Most of the actual gameplay is fairly straightforward; mainly you do watered-down Goldeneyeish type missions with 1-2 objectives.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of a bird's-eye camera angle and lack of decent rader, stealth often isn't an option.  I've mainly done the missions by blowing away everyone in my path.

I have to say, though, the online portion of it is actually pretty good, once you get down the strange control scheme.

Has anybody played the new gun for the psp?  I'm really enjoying the console version and was wondering how this one was.

I love the new Metal Gear Game but yes, the control takes some getting used to.

Anyway, Field Commander is a good game, I would say a B or B-. It is not as good as the first Advance Wars but better then the DS version. Also, the online play is terrific. I would play a buddy of mine for hours on end, it was that good. The only thing is if you get the game remove the "troop movement" feature in the options menu, it speeds up the game. If you can get it cheap I would pick it up.

I don't think Syphon Filter is $20 yet but it is an amazing game. I would also consider Hot Shots Golf, Genesis Collection, Valkaryie Profile (of course you have to like RPG's), Gradius Collection, Virtual Tennis, MLB 2006, LocoRoco (the game is very easy but fun, I loved hunting around collecting all of the items) and Ace Combat X. This is just to name a few.

I hope you enjoy your purchase.

Has the genesis collection come out on the psp yet? Also, are the games the same or did they shuffle them around a bit? I don't understand why Sega didn't put the streets of rage trilogy on it!! Grrrr! I think it's a great collection but I would have traded:

1). Flicky

2). Sonic the Hedgehog

3). Virtual Fighter 2(yuck!!!)

for the streets of rage trilogy!!

I am going to veer off into a sort of different direction. In your guys' opinion, what companies should do a classics comp and what should go on it? I would love to see Konami pull a Capcom and go all out on a compilation! Could you image a ps3/360 compilation with game ranging from the 8 bit-32 bit generation from Konami? Here is a list I can only dream of!

1. Metal Gear

2. Skate or Die

3. Double Dribble

4. Contra

5. Super C

6. Castlevania

7. Blades of Steel

8. Life Force(or any Gradius title)

9. Axelay(I believe that was Konami)

10. Mystical Ninja(or any Goemon title)

11. Super Castlevania IV

12. Dracula X

13. Snatcher

14. Suikoden 1

15. Vandal Hearts

16. Metal Gear Solid

UNLOCKABLE GAMES

1). Contra: Hard Corps

2). Castlevania: Bloodlines

3). Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

4). Castlevania III

....I know the unlockables are kind of weak but I'm tired and can't quite remember, off the top of my head, Konami's other great games! Any suggestions, guys?
