The DS?

Postby PB Troy » December 24th, 2006, 5:21 pm

Ok, I'm almost convinced on getting a DS lite, I played Mario vs Donkey Kong: March of the Mini's and I finally was able to enjoy the stylus which previously I had my doubts about.  My only other questions are #1 I've seen some scratched up touch screens at the store that are beyond repair, is the screen really that brittle? also #2 Does the stylus get tiring after awhile of playing? and finally #3 I heard they're coming out with a DS in Japan that's the same size as the lite but with bigger screens...should I wait for this to get the USA, or not hold my breath and settle on the Lite.

Thanks

Ever been sitting at a railroad crossing and notice that 90% of the freight cars you see have been vandalized with graffiti?

What you're seeing on those DS touch screens in stores is similar, its just people with a lack of respect for other people's property defacing it because they get some odd joy out of it. You won't have any issues unless you use a quarter or something for your stylus.

I was asking because I was unsure if that was the case or not.  Although I take good care of my things, especially if they cost alot, but it raised questions whether down the road using a stylus on a screen would do some serious wear and tear.  That's why since some people have had their's for a bit now they could tell.

You don't have to explain why you asked, it was a legitimate question.

As for your other questions, I've heard of no planned redesign of the DS Lite.

PBT- The DS is my favorite system, I love to lay in bed and read books and I enjoy doing the same with my DS (I'm divorced so thats as much action as my bed gets! ) .... the brightness on the second/third settings are so powerful it's like a little TV set (I use setting four as a flashlight when mine is out of batteries!) ...the colors/graphics REALLY pop out at you and the sound is better than regular DS too (I had both so I can compare them), plus it is easy to hold, perfect size. I take good care of my things and I never had any touchscreen problems with either the Ds or Dslite (though my DS developed a flicker problem, that may have been the result of a "bloody" accident!)....lest it seem I'm a Nintendo salesman, I haven't seen a lot of great DS games LATELY, but there are many great classics and GBA games play great on it too!

if its a big concern, you can get peel and stick screen protectors

Chrisbid...I never saw or tried a peel-stick "screen protector"; if you have one I have wondered, wouldn't the extra layer cut down on sensitivity? I would be worried of not getting it on PERFECTLY and having dust or a wrinkle to deal with; can you reposition them? And if the STICKER gets a scratch or mark, can it be removed? I had the early model Lynx which has a plastic "screen protector" over the actual screen, and once dust or dirt got under it it was impossible to remove!

I am a Modeler too and thought of a better solution. Modelers make "glass" windows out of thin ACETATE that comes in sheets. Costs mere pennies; you could cut to fit a piece and either cut it so it mates perfectly with the edges, or use removeable tape to hold the sides down...cheap and replaceable! I never had any problems with my TS getting "marked" though.

Thanks Alienblue, that's very reasuring.  The original reason I wanted a DS is cause I'm a Nintendo Fanboy and only buy such brand, except when I bought a PS1 like a year ago just because (also my least played system) but also like I said when I tried Mario vs Donkey Kong in the store and participated in a boss battle, it was very satisfiying and actually felt like I had a accomplish something once I beat him via the extra work put into it, I'm hoping it doesn't grow tiresome or loses it's novalty.  The VGC hasn't done a review on the DS itself (nor any other handhelds) so I'm hoping those who already own one can help.

I just had to point out that this gentleman actually self admits to being a fanboy....

Which I find refreshing, since that is a four letter word it seems.
