It's like the disagreement I had with SSX's twin brother, Shawn, earlier.  It is really cool to be able to surf the net or watch videos or whatever, in your livingroom.  Much better than having to go to the computer room to show someone something on the internet.  Is that so hard to understand?  My computer monitor is 21".  My TV is 45".  There are couches in the living room.  My wife is in there, and she's hot.  Need i say more?

SSX, regardless of your opinions, this society loves and markets products that can do multiple functions.  It would suit me fine if the Wii replaced my computer one day...one less machine clogging up my home.

If you guys enjoy it that is all that matters. As far as I am concerned I think if the Wii could play dvd's that would be a better selling point. I could care less about "showing videos to my friends on my tv" since it doesn't happen anyway. But if you like it that is all that counts. I find it funny that Nintendo, who refuses to offer online play to its customers b/c they are the morality police of videogames offers the "seedy" internet on their little Wii.

As do I, but I like features that work well.  I'll take the ability to play dvds or cutom soundtracks over a web broswer that works great with flash games and nothing else.  It's not like you can use it for anything that needs heavy typing which is over 50% of things on the internet.

I'd vote "yes" for the Wii internet function. It doesn't cost anything to use the trail version, and when it does cost something, it is a princely sum of five dollars. If all I ever use it for is the occasional youtube session, then whatever. Works for me. I like it and use it to casually surf blogs and check email (though I don't actually respond, since it is inneficient).

If the Wii was marketed as a machine that allowed one to surf the internet, I'd be more critical of the many shortcomings that surfing the net on the Wii has. But internet browsing is a little bonus, so I find it silly that people are dissecting it that much.

Also, I personally applaud Nintendo for actually caring about morality at all (if that is really what it is). I don't mind violence in games all that much (depends on the context), I appreciate that there is a company that families can turn to and be able to depend on somewhat. Every major must have game I can remember for Nintendo is basically OK for kids, yet I would be uncomfortable allowing a child under 12 years old play Gears of War. If that makes them the morality police, so be it. The market is all about choice so if that bothers you, just play with Microsoft and Sony's products.

*sigh* Nintendo does not refuse to offer online gaming.  The Wii already has a system for it in place.  Nobody, least of all me, expected the games themselves to be online-enabled at launch.

I don't really care that much about online gaming anyway, but your continual repeating of this falsehood that Nintendo "refuses" to offer online gaming is just that, a falsehood.  How can you NOT appear to be the perennial blind anti-Nintendo-fanboy when you keep restating the same inaccurate information over and over again?

It was a joke, also known as an attempt at humor.  Mozart, lighten up the new years almost here.

Hey Mozart how many games have you played online with your Wii? Zero. The fact that there were no online games at launch is a joke. If I remember correctly Perfect Dark and COD2 were online enabled from the start. If you don't think it is important that is fine but it is a great selling point especially for action/FPS games. Millions of people love playing online to some extent, I think you are in the minority.

Wow!  That was a brilliant retort -- restating what I already said and then somehow still convincing yourself that you have a point.  I admit to being uninterested in online.  I admit that there are no games online for the Wii yet.  But my point remains (and yours still falls flat) that this is because launch games did not contain online capabilities.  This is NOT tantamount to saying that Nintendo refuses to do online, as you have been implying.

You need to work on your critical thinking skills.
