Dead Rising disc problem?

Postby Sudz1 » December 31st, 2006, 5:46 pm

Yesterday my GF told me that she's already had to replace one Dead Rising disc for her son (she got him a 360 for Christmas) and already the second one has stopped working.  In both cases apparently the game ran fine at the onset but after just a few hours of play stopped being readable.  She's worried that the 360 might be faulty although the other games he has (2 or 3) all work without any problem.  I think maybe a 'bad' batch of DR discs went out to the stores and she just happened to get 2 from the same bad batch.  Anyone else have any issues?

There's no reason really for a disc to work and then stop a few hours later, I'd vote that its a hardware issue.

It's interesting you say that, because my 360 (which I also recently got) had problems reading all of my 360 discs (Sonic, Gears, and PGR3). The first two days I had it were fine, but then I got the "put this disc into an Xbox 360" message.  And then the system overheated.  However, now it works fine with everything I have (including my two new games; Tomb Raider and Dead Rising) and it hasn't overheated since.  I wonder what was going on.

At the very least, though, Microsoft now extended the system warranty to a year, so at least they'll be able to help the people with this problem (and me, if I have problems like this again).

Dead Rising disc problem?

The funny thing is that she's claiming you can see how the disc (in both instances) had developed a burned-in 'ring' or something, as if the laser reading the disc was actually causing some damage.  I can't imagine how that might happen, but it seems to me if that were the case it would be happening with the other games too and it's not.  Oh well.

Well, I'm not sure my discs have been damaged, but I do tend to hear some clicking and whirring noises on occasion when my system loads a 360 disc, so maybe there's some validity to that claim.
