When it comes to packaging, I generally give the Genesis the edge. While the SNES had glossy boxes, you can't beat the durability and convenience of a clam shell case.
But what's the deal with the manuals?
The SNES, for the most part, had glossy, fully-colored manuals that were fun to read.
On the Genesis you were lucky if the cover was in color. The booklet itself was always in black and white, printed on some kind of recycled paper. Viewing the screenshots in black and white was not enticing at all.
Thoughts?

I think a lot of Genesis games did have glossy manuals. Maybe it depended on the company.

Some of my favorite manuals for the Genesis were made by EA and Koei. I really enjoy Buck Rodgers and Starflight on the Genesis. makes me miss the EA of old. Both have really helpful manuals and the Starflight map is impressive. Most of my Koei games are on the Super Nintendo but the Genesis map and manual for Uncharted Waters impressed me.

Most of the Genesis manuals I had were in color manuals although I don't remember if they were glossy. However I would rather have the clamshell case over the glossy instructions.
