How important are games?

How important are games in your life now? Are you

a) obsessed (buys every system on launch day, gets physically excited over rare games, lives with mother because owns thousands of games but can't afford own Apt. ...unless you are rich in which case PHPBBBTTTT! )

b) Enjoys games immensely as a hobby but realizes there are more important things in life (family, work, beer, pizza...)

c) Hates games. I thought this was a porno site.

...seiously we are all probably obssesed as children (I HAD to have every new 2600 game, then system) but most grow out of it I think. I still enjoy games, but would honestly say doing artwork (I'm an actual artist, gratuated '99) and reading (mostly science books on nature, paleontology, comsmology and of course FOXTROT comic strips) take up more of my time then playing/ collecting games at this point.

I work a crummy job with frequent double shifts AND I'm automatically graveyard shift on top of it. I rarely get out, I'm going a party on the 10th, the first party I've gone to in 3 years

With limited hours off, at odd times, videogames are my only viable option for entertainment and relaxation.

While I do enjoy games greatly they are merely a method of relaxation.  There are so much more important things in life, like spending time with those who matter most in my life, working out, or writing.  Games are important but who really wants to be the thirty year old nerd living with his parents anyways?

I'm pretty sure no one WANTS that but it does happen.  And i am very in to games i just rarely get systems at launch.

I agree there has to be a healthy balance when it comes to gaming.  Personally, I see gaming as a refuge from the "real world".  When I sit down and play a game, I'm in my own little world.  That's why I tend to avoid PC and on-line games, where the real world tends to intrude.  I also see it as a social thing - an excuse to have friends over and drink beer.

I think gaming is a great hobby.  It's my third favorite one.  Running and mountain biking are 1 and 2 respectively.   There are a lot more important things in my life that come before gaming as a hobby, like making time for my friends and my girlfriend, finsihing my masters, and working.  Running ranks ahead of work and school though.   Oh, and Cross country sking ties with gaming.  So, um, gaming is pretty important in my life, but if time contstraints ever come up, gaming could be cut from my list if I had to cut something.  As it is lately, I generally fit in an hour of gaming on a weeknight between 11:00 and 12:00, just before going to bed.  On the weekends I've managed to get gaming and time for my girlfriend to coincide on Saturday nights.

Me! If it means having 1000 or so games, then I'm all for it! Games are the 3rd most important thing to me:

 

1. God

2. Friends

3. Games

4. Food

5. Movies

Believe it or not, I actually think about gaming alot more than I actually do it.  I'm pretty busy running my own business, so it's hard to find time where I feel like there's not something I should be doing instead of playing a game to make sure there's meat on the table.  Sometimes I long for a 9-5 job, where I can completely zone out after work and play a rowdy game of Worms Blast! on my Gamecube wth my wife, like I did tonight!

Transitioning between A to B. I intend my purchase of New Super Mario Brothers last week to be my last purchase of the year. My life won't be changing, I'll be sitting here at the PC until late August I imagine when my last year of college starts, but I just won't be as poor as I would've been if I had kept buying games.

 

Got many years worth of gaming on the shelfs in this room. By the time I've caught up, the next generation should be on their way out and cheap and I'll be able to afford them.
