How important are games?

I might seem like an "A," but that is only because I'm trying to eventually get a job in the industry, so I spend time with programming, UnrealEd and other engines, which takes a great deal of my time outside of my current day job.

 

But in reality, everyone should be a B, with a few of us maybe being a pretty darn fanatical "B" every now and then. It's totally fun to WASTE about 5-8 hours in one sitting on a game, and although I haven't been able to do that in quite some time (something to do with getting married, hah!), I do plan on taking a vacation in the next 8 months where I just go somewhere cheap, set up a favorite console or two and just plug away (-:

 

Kudos to the posters here, everyone seems to have their priorities right. Definitely God, family, country... maybe other stuff, but games are right there in the top ten (-:

right? Don't forget to write "happy birthday, thread" in August!

I'm glad there aren't many fanatical gamers. Although I myself have over 800 games for different systems, most just sit there
on the shelf as collectibles. I enjoy the hunt and reading and writing about games more then PLAYING them (I reserve that mostly for evenings, on my PSX or DS or whatever). I've many other hobbies, including tripoical fish, birds, collecting Star Trek stuff, ..at one point I was into coins and stamps. And I READ more than anything. All subjects, from comix to heavy science
tomes. But we all go through phases. When I was 17 , of course games were MUCH more important to me then now (I probably played 7 hours a day back then!) And THAT was the Donkey Kong era!

I am real big into gaming right now. I had nearly quit, but I got a 360 for Xmas and I am on a Gears roll.

I end up buying GBA games even if I don't finish the last ones I bought.  It's weird I was never this way with my Cube but now I buy for the sake of it (good games though).  I really shouldn't though cause eventually it becomes costly!!

"B".  Games are fun, but I've spent the last year mainly doing graduate school with a two month lapse of backpacking / studying in Finland.  I'm applying to PhD programs in the next few months and have to finish my masters thesis, so I'm guessing my videogaming will take even more of a hit soon.

 

They've mainly been my source of entertainment outside school, because I'm not exactly in the mood to crack a Dostoyevsky book or listen to NPR (or engage in any other high-brow "entertainment") after doing mathematical analysis proofs for eight hours a day.  I lay in my bed and play puzzle / platfrom / FPS games on my DS or PSP an hour before sleeping.

 

Also, however good Gears of War may be, I'd rather spend $1000 on a plane ticket to see this German girl I met in Helsinki, rather than on an Xbox 360 and HDTV.
